Before I became a doula...

People often wonder what I did before I became a doula. I was a teacher for 13 years, most recently teaching 6th grade Language Arts (reading and writing). I have always been drawn to opportunities where I can help others and have been most fulfilled in situations when I can use my personal strengths as a caregiver--caring for and about people is what gives meaning to my life. Being a doula allows me utilize these strengths to educate and support families during their pregnancy and birth experience.

Meet Allison

Hello!

My name is Allison Schultz. I'm a professional birth doula serving moms and families in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) metro area of Minnesota, including the surrounding suburbs. I am a certified birth doula through DONA International.

I've been where you are; wanting the best for your pregnancy and birth and trying to sort through the wealth of information that is out there. And like you, I wondered what my options were.

​

Incidentally, I became interested in birth work after the birth of my own children. Looking back at my own pregnancy, I am surprised at how little I knew about doulas or really birth in general. I remember how overwhelmed I felt trying to prepare for my birth and how confused I was by all the conflicting information I read. 

 

Since then, I became determined to do more to educate and support moms throughout pregnancy and childbirth. I began to submerse myself in the birth world with the desire to learn everything I can to help moms feel prepared, make informed decisions, and feel supported in any method of birth they may choose.

 

My main goal as a doula is to meet the individualized needs of each mom, partner, and family. I hope to help you experience comfort, confidence, and overall joy as you welcome your new baby to this world! It is complete honor to share this experience with you; I have been known to shed a tear at pretty much every birth I attend.

 

I have a husband and twin boys that I enjoy sharing my time with. I proudly gave birth after an exciting twin pregnancy in May of 2012. I attended my first birth as a doula in March of 2014 and have been witness to birth days ever since!
